BRITISH LABOUR
CALLED ON TO
RESIGN OFFICE
LONDON Tuesday
The Opposition in the House of
Commons last night registered
one of the largest anti-Government
votes in Parliament in a
determined but unsuccessful bid
to reject the measure to nationalise
the iron and steel industry,
and there were cries of "Resign!
Get. Out!" >
" The Government mustered 333
votes for the second reading as
against 203 by the Opposition.
The measure will go to the
House of Lords and if rejected
will become law during the life-
time of the present Parliament.
Mr. Lyttleton, who headed the
move for rejection, claimed that
the bill was a gamble with the
people's money and with the nation's
chance of success.
