Black rot and black
leg are among the
diseases to which
cabbages and other
crucifer crops are.
heir, and they are
destructively potent.
Both are seed-borne.
Black rot comes from a
parasite, and in wet con
ditions the infection can
spread through a seedbed
or crop like wildfire.
The blight may be en
countered -in seedlings or -
it might reveal itself in
the leaves of sturdy
p!ants or in. the woody
part of the stem.
Black leg, a fungous dis
ease, on the other hand,
attacks ail parts, of the
plant.
In seedlings the stem
and 'roots rot; ,in the more
mature plants' black areas
appear on the- stalk and
leaf-stalk. ;;
Rotation
On the leaves, too, grey
ish spots are found.
In each case crop rota
tion and, more important
still; seed > treatment will,
give control.. . ;
