The Commonwealth Economic |
Committee's ,;. report, "Grain
Crops," published to-day, says
that world, grain supplies., were
larger in 1948 Ythan pre-war and
the .''amount....'of-,,grain entering
world ; trade was greater than
for many years.
World. output of, the 'bread
grains, ; wheat hilarity, declined,
by 30, percent during the war.
Wheat, maize, oats barley and
rye production, in 1941 dropped
to 93. percent. of the 1938 production
and. iii. 1945 was down
to 81 per cent. ,
By 1948 the figure had risen
to six per cent above, the pre-

The report said that rice production
had regained the pre-
water-level, but , population increases

made an even higher production
level necessary to secure the
same consumption per head as

main rice exporting corn
