Eighth Victim
Died In Tarakan
Explosion
SYDNEY, Sunday.
The death toll on the Tarakan
disaster reached eight to-day
when D. Graydon, cook, of Bur-
anda, Queensland, died.
A civilian dockworker, Mal-
colm Reginald Sanders, died yes-
terday in Sydney Hospital. He
will be buried at South Head
Cemetery on Tuesday.
A service was held at St. An-
drew's Cathedral this afternoon.
It was attended by the Gover-
nor-General (Mr. McKell), Rear-
Admiral Moore, representatives
of the Service Chiefs and a rep-
resentative of the Governor (Lt.-
General Northcott).
The State and Federal Gov-
ernments were also represented.
Doctors are working non-stop
to save the lives of other vic-
tims of the explosion.
Stoker J. Rolfe, of Bankstown,
and Stoker R. F. Grace, of Her-
berton (Qld.), are still on the
dangerously ill list.
Six others, including a second
civilian dockworker, are in a
satisfactory condition.
At St. Vincent's Hospital, A/B
M. E. Pearce, of Elwood, Vic-
toria, and H. Nicholls, telegraph-
ist, of West Australia, are on the
dangerously ill list. Three others
are in a satisfactory condition.
Doctors discontinued blood
transfusions to the injured men
and are now treating their
shocking burns.
A navy spokesman said to-
night that a ship to replace
Tarakan's Manus Island assign-
ment is under consideration.
