COUiTRY GENERALLY QUIET.
VIGEROY'S FURTHER REPORT.
London, April 23.
The Press Bureau has issued the follow
ing report from the Viceroy of India,
dated April 22:-'"In the Punjab the Sedi
tious Meeting Act has been extended to
the Nyalipur district in view of the un
rest which is spreading there. All is
quiet at Amritsar and Lahore. A
stranger known as Brahmcharya had
worked up an agitation leading to dis
turbances at Sangla by openly urging the
schoolboys to cry, 'Hurrah for the Hindu
Mussulman.' Arrests have been made at
Dhaban, on the Sangla-Lahore line. Troops
have arrived at Kaithal, where all is quiet.
There are reports at Mulltan of a ooming
Hindu Mohamedan split. In the North
West Frontier Province all is quiet, ana
the Union Committee, as the result of an.
interview with the Chief Commissioner, are
discouraging further demonstrations. At
Bombay throughout the Presidency all is
quiet Mahomedan feeling is settin,
against Gandhi. Gandhi and Horniman
have announced the temporary suspension
of civil disobedience to the law Gandhi
confessed that he underrated the forces of
evil, and advised his followers to co-ope
rate with the Government, while Hornm
man expressed the opinion that unscrn
pulous elements had corrupted the move
ment At Delhi all is quiet."
