FEDERAL ARBITRATION COURT.
APPIJCATIONS FOR HIGHER WAGES.
Melbourne, Oct. 3.
Applicstions to vary awards affec..ng ....e
Postal Electricians' Union and the Tele
graph and Te!ephone Construction and
Maintenance Union. were made before Mr.
Justice Higgins in the Federal Arbitration
Court to-day, the respondents being the
Federal Public Service Commissioner and
others. T?he Postal Electricians' Union
asked for an increase in the minimum rates
of wages for adults to the extent of £23 e
year. The details are as follow:
Mechanics (telephone or te:egraph) £206 a
vosr: senior mechanics, £226; foremen me
chanics £266: telephone inspectors £266;
mcehanieians in Hobart or Ade!lide, £302;
Perth. £338: Brisbane. £362: Melbourne,
£362: batterrmen, £176; and foremen hat
terymen, £224. The other union asked for
the following rates :-Linemen, £170- line
men in charge and senior linemen, £200;
line foremen. £224; and line inspectors,
£248.
