At the last.meeting-of the- A.F. State
execative,, . letter was received from the
Amalgamated' Society of Rai?~ay Em
ployees statiffg that protests :had been re
ceived from the branches of the 'unton
agaizist the represen~taion'. made to the
Premier that trades union funds "should be'
controlled so. as not to allow them to be
spent for political purposes, a?, they re
quested the State executive to take action
.nithe interests of the unions. The execu
tive decided to forward. the protest to ,the
Government.

The metropolitan council decided at ii.
last meeting, to ask .the Premier to receive
a 'deputation on behalf. of the- Railway.
Unions, to press the claimsof the members
of the Railway Corp' that their privileges
shnald be p-eserred to them, as was done
in the case of members of. the A.I.F. The
privileges referred to are in regard to acco
munlated leave and the annual panes for
the wives and familiA while the men are
away on active service.
The council carried a resolution, 'with re.'
.ference to the protest of the Metropolitan
Hospitals and Kindred Institutions' 'nion,
againstt statements made -at a recent
A.L.F. depuation concerning the Hospital
for th? Isane, : that the committee of the
eomicil which .reported on the conditions
at the hospital attend the next meeting of
ithe union, and- explain the 'position to
members.
