MARKETS AT NOARLUNGA.
We have been favored, by the Manager of the
South Australian Company, with the following
notes regarding the establishment of regular
markets at Noarlunga. Combined with these,
we arc extremely gratified to observe that a
series of prizes is to be awarded for the best
specimens of produce &c, a system which has
been productive of incalculable improvements
in the mother country, and which we hope to
see supported here, now that a commencement
is about to be made :—
" A space of about two acres reserved as a
market-place, is to be enclosed at the Com-
pany's expence, and subdivided so as to form
pens for horses, sheep, produce, &c.
Markets are to be held once a fortnight, or
once a week, as may be found advisable-
Friday being the day proposed for the market.
The Company will send cattle and sheep, so
as to establish a market at first.
A fair, proposed to be held once or twice a
year, at which premiums will be awarded to
those who shall bring for sale—
The greatest number of cattle
The greatest number of sheep, or of other
kinds of stock
The best entire horse
The best brood mare
The best bull
The best cow
The best half-dozen rams
The best half-dozen ewes
The best half-dozen wethers
The finest specimen of wheat, oats, barley,
maize, potatoes, &c.
The most approved agricultural implements,
&c.
The finest stapled wool.
The funds requisite for the payment of
these premiums, may be raised partly by sub-
scriptions, and partly by a small charge levied
upon every beast or artirle exhibited in the
market or at the fair, and a small additional
charge on each beast or article sold.
The premiums to be awarded by judges,
chosen at the commencement of the fair, on
the spot; the choice of the judges to be made
in such a manner as to give the most entire
and universal satisfaction, as to their capability
and impartiality."
