United Nations Flags For Korea War
(DAILY MIRROR WORLD CABLES)
NEW YORK, Thursday. — Blue and white United Nations flags are being
prepared for shipment to Korea, to fly over the U.N. forces resisting Communist
aggression against South Korea.
This is in accordance with a
security Council resolution of
July 7 that authorises United
Nations troops in Korea to use
the U.N. flag in addition to the
flags of their own countries.
Gen. MacArthur has request
ed U.N. Secretary - General
Trygve Lie to send 400 U.N.
banners for the use of his com
mand. Two hundred had al
ready been ordered by Lie, and
600 will now be made.
In his request to U.N., trans
mitted via the U.S. Department
of Defence, Gen. MacArthur in-
dicated that he would have the
U.N. flag flown by combat units
as well as by upper echelons.
The U.N. flag has a blue
background on which is centred
a polar projection of the earth,
with crossed olive branches in
white.
The flags will be produced by
a New York company, which ex
pects to turn out 100 flags by
Thursday, and will fulfill the
entire order in a few weeks.
