IN SMELII GAME
ADELAIDE, Friday. — N.S.W. got away to a
good start in the Sheffield Shield game against
South Australia at Adelaide Oval today and at
lunch had captured four for 84. .
TYAVIDSON badly beat Mc-
Lean with his .second ball
and trapped him l.b.w.
McLean played at the flight
of the ball and was. tricke.". by
the leftrarm medium-pacer.
Lewis ran to 16 with boun
daries through the covers off
both Brooks and Davidson.
The N.S.W. 12t'n man was
Hanlin, and for S.A. Craig act
ed as 12th.
After 42 runs had been taken
from the first seven overs,
James replaced Davidson with
leg spinner Fred Johnston who
made Lewis defend, grimly.
Hamence went on the fourth
ball of Brooks' fifth over when
he attempted to pull away from
a short kicking delivery and
Carroll took the catch at second
slip.
Batting was in the doldrums
with the slow men operating,
and only , 14' runs came up in
the second half hour.
James brought Brooks, back
10 minutes before lunch and off
the last ball Lewis wais caught
behind by Sismey, who moved
across smartly to take a- neat
catch.
Duldig was caught behind off :
the sixth ball of the last over
before lunch, when he held his
bat out defensively to a kicker
from Brooks. In 14 deliveries
Brooks has improved his figures
from 1-27 to 3-27.
