General Assembly
To Hold Session
In Europe
v NEW, YORK, Sunday.
The General Assembly yesterday
voted, 32 to 17 to hold the 1948 session
in Europe. ?; is -.'.-.
Dr.' Evatt,' opposing the meeting
in Europe, said, that the extra expense
of the move, which is estimated
at about, one million dollars,
would consume' much of the sayings
i made by the Budgetary Committee
t n other United Nation's activities;
many, of which have been sharply
restricted, to reduce expenses.
Despite the Assembly's note, Britain,
Australia and their supporters',
it is expected, will try to block' the
meeting in Europe, by, a fight, in the
Assembly against the necessary budgetary
appropriation which must be
approved by, a. two-thirds". majority,
whereas, yesterday's decision ? required
only a simple majority; . ....
, Geneva,: Paris, and Brussels: have
been" mentioned as possible cities for
the, 1048 meeting.;:.

mitted comprising Australia, Russia,

lands, Norway, Panama and Uruguay

Dr. Evatt said in a Press statement,
after the. vote- favouring the
European site, that, Australia voted
against the motion ., because , they
felt that a change of' venue at such
a critical , time might, cause a set-

Dr. Evatt said that the Australians
were beaten fairly and squarely and
they would accept the decision without
