EUGENE VOLAIRE V. ALF. MOREY.
Next Monday evening the French cham- I
pion boxer, Volaire, will meet Alf. More
in His Majesty's Theatre, under the direc
tion of MIr. Duncan Neven. Volaire is the
accredited light and welter chanmpion of
France, and he has just concluded a sin
gularly successful series of contests in the
East under the Baker Stadium manage
ment, and special arrangements were made
with this boxing body for the appearance
of the French champion in Perth. Morey
and Volaire have never met before. The
prices to be charged for this contest are
10s., 5s.. 3s., and 2s., while the box plan
will open for Perth at the Roselea Nur
sery, and for Fremantleites at Jack Cos
san's, on Wednesday morning next. Coun
try patrons can book by letter with re
mittance to the Roselea Nursery. There
will be a special ten-round preliminary.

DARCY DEFEATS SMITH.

There was scarcely a vacant seat in
SBaker's stadium on Saturday nigiht. when
I Les. Darcy (West Mailland) encountereil
Jeff Smith (United States) for the worlds
middleweight championship. Each boxer
weighed a few ounces over 14 51b, The
condition of tbhe men left little to be de
sired. In the first round Darcy shaped
confidently and aggressively. His straight
left followed lr a right swing left their
mark on Smill's face. The American
clinched and rtstorted to holding and hit
ting his opponcast. Darcy quite held his
own at in-fight h2g. Darcy stood well up
to his mark. Smith crouched and when
he landed a blow came to close quarters
nestled his heai near Darcy's chin and
got to work wish one hand while holdinmg
his antagonist's. left or right. It was
while Smith wasn crouching that he struck
Darcy an unmistakably foul blow below
the belt. The referee, Harold Baker, cau
tioned the Ame rian for this offlence. The
men then finished the round, which ended
min Darcy's favorr but not by a great mar
gin. In the sc tand and last round Darcy
forced the fight ag and scored with several
heavy lefts and rights mostly on the bend.
Smith, who wae shaping somewhat ner
vonsly, landed Iheavily with a straight left
to the mark, r cally avoiding Darcy's left
lead. Ho cro:ged him heavily with the
right. Smith dlucked another lead, and
then swung his i'eft on Darcy's groin. The
referee suarateil the men and declared
