RMIBBEY O A STEAMER
VALUABLE JEWELLERY STOLEN.
Auck??nd, July 14.
This morning it was discdvered that out
of three boxes of jewellery, valued at £816,
oonaigned from Sylney' to Auckland by
the Union Company's steamer !Maheno, two
had been smashed open, and the contents
abstracted, while there was no trace of the
third, which had entirely disappeared.
The boxes, on being received on board
the steainer at Sydney, were placed where
it was considered that they would be' safe.
Nothing was known about the robbery till
this morning, when the consignee, Mr. C.
Nurse, a well-known jeweller, of Auckland,
came to take delivery.
