Sydney, Ma113
Thirty cadets were compelled to attend
at the Water Police Court to-day to answer
a' charge of having failed to attend the
reouired number of drills and to obey
previous orders of Court in this connection.
Thirty-eight were ordered to be confined to
barracks for ten days'in addition to the
time they were short in their drills and
to pay 6s. costs in default 48 hours' inm
prisonment with hard labour. Several of
the cadets assumed a defiant attitide and
said they would sooner go to gaol than pay
the costs. One cadet pleaded not enuilty
on the grounds that he had been 'for 7
hours in Darlinghurst Gaol.
"Ain't that enough?" he asked. It trans
pired that this cadet had been taken to
Darlinghurst because ,he -had failed to pay
the costs of the prosecution in !the first
instance when he failed to do his duty.
The cadets against whom the confinement
orders were made were taken off in asmili
sary waggon.
