Prices And Taxes
I have no desire to enter into a
controversy on price control with M.
Somerville except to state that I
will leave it to the sense of the elec-
tors to decide whether they will
hand over any more of their rights
to a Canberra clique.
It would appear that Mrs Somer-
ville has two particular hates-Legis-
lative Councils and tax reductions.
As to tax reduction, let Mrs Somer-
ville ponder over my latest assess-
ment and see;if she does not con-
sider it an iniquitous impost. On
an income of £465, nine-tenths of
which was derived from personal
exertion and the balance from my
savings of half a lifetime, I receiv-
ed a demand for £116, Perhaps,
however, she is so enamoured of her
political friends that she would pre-
fer to see them tax the very shirt
off our backs.
HAD IT.
Hobart.
