The museum will trace the history of the Bible by means of unique archaeological artifacts that have come from all the areas mentioned in the biblical text. The collection consists of over 3,000 items from the private collection of Dr Elie Borowski. Dr Borowski is a dealer and scholar of Near East and classical antiquites with a world-wide reputation. Apart from donating his collection he also arranged to fund over 90 percent of the $12 million dollars needed to physically house the artifacts in a purpose built museum near to Israel’s parliament, the Knesset. The visitor will see Bible history unfold in a chronological manner that will bring to life the varied aspects of the biblical period. The Bible Lands Museum will be the first of a series of new museums that are opening in this area over the next few years, which will make the location between the Israel Museum and the Hebrew University a “museum belt.” Currently in construction are a science museum and a natural history museum.
