ILLICIT OPIUM DEALING.
TIE POLICE HOAXED.
Sydney, March 5.
At Waterloo late on Friday night the
police seized 180 tins supposed :L contain
opium. When the tins were opened they
were found'to contain flour and treacle. The
tins were taken from a cab which had
pulled up outside a house in Botany-road.
Rodfern, near Waterloo, and the
cabman said that the men who
owned them were a little distance down the
road The police went in pursuit, and suc
ceeded in overtaking them. They made
two arrests, but the third man Cot away.
On it being ascertained beyond doubt that
the tins contained flour and treacle, the men
were released.
