"SERIOUS OFFENCES."
To the Editor.
Sir,-Truly a reign of terror seems an
proaching for mothers of little girls. Case
after case appears in the papers of baby
girls being interfered with and injured ter
ribly. Yet a monster when found guilty
gets at the most a few months' imprison
ment, and is free again to pursue his
abominable course. I know of one instance
in this city of a mother who has to take her
ch ai of 6 to and from school every time
on account of a human fiend who dogs the
child. Are we degenerating that such things
can be, and no punishment be found to fit
the crime? On behalf of the little innocent
ones, I appeal to the good men-and thank
God there are not a few-to rise up and
quickly stamp the horror out from among
us.-Yours, etc., A MOTHER.
