DOGS TEACH
SURGERY
Because of experiments on 'greyhounds
it is now possible to save
the lives of people stabbed in the
heart.
Even bullets can be removed
from the hearts of persons who
would otherwise die, -
Mr. L. F. O'Shaughnessy, a
London surgeon, told the British
Medical Association at Plymouth
of grafting experiments on the
hearts of racing greyhounds.
Greyhounds were chosen for the
initial experiments, he said, to test
whether a creature of the most
active kind could stand the opera-
tion without ill-effects.
Almost dramatic feats had been
successfully performed at St.
J Ames's L.C.C. Hospital.
