SHOPS ACT
Amending Bill Not
Proposed
It is not the intention of the Government
to re-submit the amendments to the
Shops Act to Parliament, according to a
statement made yesterday by the Premier
(Mr. Cosgrove) when referring to the
suggestion made at a meeting of the Re-
tail Traders' Association at Launceston.
Jt was stated at the meeting that the
Government was sympathetic to a re-
quest that the bill should again be in-
troduced without the provisions for Sat-
urday morning closing applying to all
parts of the State.
The Premier said the amendments to
the Act in the bill which had been re-
jected, and provision for Saturday clos-
ing, went hand in hand.
