I DISTRICT NEWS
BRIDGEWATER.-At the annual meeting
ot the Bridgewater branch of the Red Cross
Society the president (Mrs. D. James) presid-
ed. The secretary (Mrs. Ivo Taylor) report-
ed that during the year £56 for funds had
been raised, numerous garments had been
forwarded to headquarters, and 36 garments
for refugees had been despatched. Wool
for knitting is being distributed among the
giris nt the Bridgewater school. Officers
elected were: President, Mrs. D. James; sec-
retary, Mrs. Ivo Taylor; treasurer. Mrs. Clyde
Piesse; committee. Mesdames B. and E.
James, D. Knight, Currie, E, Marshall, Lewis,
F. Clark, M., G. A. Wood, Fenton, D. H.
Dickenson, F. Clark. A dance to supplement
funds for thc Red Cross was held In the
Bridgewater hall on Saturday. Mrs. Ivo
Taylor was secretary.

PONTVILLE.-A dance which realised £20
to supplement funds of St. Matthew's Roman
Catholic Church, was held in the Pontville
hall. A novelty dance was won by Mr. G.
Brown. Thc secretary was Mr. L. Hoare. To
aid thc Australian Comforts Fund a commit-
tee from Hobart conducted a dance in the
Pontville hall. ' Novelty dances were won
by Messrs. B. Button. L. Reading, and Miss
P Sidney. Mrs. L. Freeman presided at the
August meeting of the Pontville branch of
the Australian Comforts Fund. Completed
work was handed In, and £10, thc proceeds
of an American tea and monthly contribution
of the branch was forwarded to headquar-
ters. Parishioners of the Tea Tree Angli-
can Church held a dance In thc Pontville
hall. Miss D. Barwlck was the secretary.
BUSHY PARK.-At the 68th annual meet-
ing of the Bushy Park Club and Library the
secrettry (Mr. H. W. Shoobridge) said the
late Mr. W. E. Shoobridge had been presi-
dent for 63 years. Membership had fallen
from 102 to 86. Five members joined the
A.I.F. Eighty-one volumes had been added.
The credit balance had been increased from
£38 to £47. It was decided to purchase war
savings certificates of the vtiuc of £20.
Officers elected were: President. Mr. A. E.
Gittus; vice-presidents, Messrs. F. D. But-
ters. S. Glover, and H. W. Shoobridge; sec-
retary. Mr. H. W. Shoobridge (35th time);
treasurer and librarian, Mr. M. Reid; assist-
ant librarian. Mr. A. Gittus; billiard-marker,
Mr. N. Hickman; assistant, H. Glover.
FITZGERALD.-In the Fitzgerald Hall on
Friday the Warden of New Norfolk (Mr. H.
A. Warner) presented Pies. John, Patrick,
and Reginald Duggan, of the 2nd 40th Bat-
talion. A.I F., ench with a money belt on be-
half of the municipality, a wristlet wKch
and sum of money on behalf of the resi-
dents, also a shaving outfit on behalf of the
Fitzgerald Football Club.
MANGAIX)RE.-The August meeting of the
Mangalore Parents and Friends' Association
was held In tho Mangalore schoolroom. Be-
cause of the transfer of Mr. E. Moore to Fitz-
gerald, Miss M. Bcsier, who ls now In charge
of thc school, was elected secretary-trea-
surer.
