Which took place In Hobart last week
removes one who wns a pioneer mem-
ber ot both tho New Town and Sandy
May clubs. He took a prominent part
in the formation ot both clubs and
was a strong "A" grade player. Of a
cheery disposition, ho was ever ready
to test his skill "ncross tho board,"
and to help the beginner along. Tho
sympathy ot all Soulhorn draughts
players ls extended to his widow and
family in their sad loss.
Tho Hobart Central Club will prob-
ably be officially opened by the Presi-
dent (Mr. ,T. .T. Wlgnnll) On February
22.
Looking Back
With the conclusion ot a splendid
year ot draughts achievement, play-
ers looked forward to the 1032 season
with every confidence. The Rev. h.
A. Burgess, who together with Mr.
J. T. Warril!», and the lalo Mr. 13.
Talbot, had been Instrumental in
building up a strong club at Wood-
bridge, accepted a call to the OV.lands
..ish early In January, and quickly
set about forming a club In that dis-
trict. The Hobart Club commenced
the season on March 31, and therb was
a splendid flttondnr.'-o ot 28 players
on opening night. On March IB, rep-
resentatives of various Southern
.utitry clubs mot at Huonville and
the Huon and Channel Draughts As-
sociation was formed, with Mr. O.
Vince ns hon. secretary. The annual
gcencral meeting of the Hobart Club,
held at the Boomerang Te Rooms on
April 14, was well attended. The ro
. 't showed (hat no fewer than 1,045
players had visited the club during tho
1(131 season. Tho first teams match
Of the season attracted 20 players,
and lt took place at the Hobart Club
on April 7, between teams led by tho
President (the late Mr. V, Sinclair),
and tho hon. secretnrv (C. R. Hnr
land). Tho latter team won easily
by IB Wins to 4 wins, and 7 gamos
drawn. G. Moodie (Tasmanian cham-
pion) represented the Stnte In the
Australian championship tourne»' held
in Melbourne about thnt time. Ho had
to retire when In n good position In
the losers' class semi-final owin<r to
ht* leave having expired, and he
hud to return to Tasmania immediate-
ly.
