THE FERTUILISERS ACT.
The Fertilisers Act passed last session pro- <*>
vides that every buyer of any article used for
fertilising the soil on payment of a fee shall be
entitled to receive from the Government
Analyst a certificate of quality. The Minister
of Agriculture has written to the council of
the School of Mines and Industries asking if
arrangements could be made to have the
analysis done at that institution at a very
moderate fee. The matter was considered at a
meeting of the council held on Monday after
noon, and it was decided that "as the ana
lytical work now being done for the Govern
ment costs more than the Government subsidy
the council can only conduct these analyses at
the same rate as other work done for the Go
vernment—3s. per item."
