DEATH OF SIR JOHN SEE.
------
Sydney, January 31.
Sir John See, who had been unwell
for some\time past, died thiis after
noon.
Sir John See. K.C.M.G., M.L.C.,
was born at Yelling, Huntintgdonshire,
in 1845, and arrived in Australia with
his parents eight years later. At tihe
time of his death he was the o?'ner of
the large business of John See and Co..
managing director of the North Coast
Steam Navigation 'Co.A and a director
of many other companies. He was re
turned ten times for the Clarenc, elch
tcrate, and was a member of several
Ministries, holding the portfolios of
Postmaster-General in the Dihhs Min
istry in 1835 and of Colonial Treasurer
in 1891-4. during which he piloted
through the Dibbs protectionist tariff.
He was Chief Secretary in the Lyno
Administration in 1899-1901. and final
ly became Premier. In 1904, after
the death of his wife, he accepted a
seat in the Legislative Council.
