THE COMING FED FRAL ELECTIONS
- ----------
C'IROULAR FROM THE LIBERA\L
LEAGUE.
The Liberal League' 'I W-est Au -
,tralia (Federal) has Lsswed the follow
ing circular to the members of the
diferent Agricultural Societies in the
State :-
5 South British Chambers, Barrack
street, Perth, August 31st, 1906. Gen- I
tlemen,---I bhog to ask your atten-tion
to the matter of the approaching elec
tions, in the hope that you will see your
way clear to help my League in ils
endeavour to secure a fair representa
tion of this State in the ensuing Fed
eral Parliamieit. Being, as you are,
in close touch and symnathy with farm
ers' and other primary producers, you
will recognise that their interests can
not possibly bh served by allowing the
Political Labour Party, with its class
cry of "Vote for LIabour." to secure
the whole of that reprscentatio'. But:
this is precisely what they aim at, vide
the "Westralian Worker" of the 10th
inst., which says "Labourites all over
Australia expect W.A. to send a full
complement of Labour members to the
Federal. Parliament. -This is not too
much to expect from such a democratic
and cosmopolitan comununity." Neither
can the adoption of a Federal land tax
help the. producing interests. True,.
they seek to "gild the pill" by. speak
ing of a large exemption, but the editor
of the "official organ" says :--"The next
Federal Labour members have the pow
er to formulate their own policy in
their own interpretation of the spirit of
the Labour plank In W.A. we can
pledge the Labour-candidates to much
lower exemptions. or even no exemp
tion at all. and allow tle tax to 'pro
gess' from a much lower amount of
and value." The same paper says in
the same issue:-"-The fiaht of the fu
ture is between the Socialist and the
anti-Socialist.- Will you then en
deavour to see (1) that every Ian and
woman in your district is on "tle Com
inonwealth roll; (2) that ctve-ry ffort
is inmade to bring home to' the eloctors
the soriousness of the situation : and
(3) that no stone be left unrtirned to
secure the largest possible uumber *of
votes on polling day? Also. will you
orgamnise a committee or committees in
your district, who will make it their
special business to look after these mat
ters, and advise me from tinm to time
as to what is being d:,ne. besides look
ing after the intercsts of thecandidates
who will look after the interests of the
State first. a.'d not be tied hand and
foot by a pledge 1 hg. hinds them to be
first, se(cr,:?d. ani all the time delegates
of a part\-. :ltl noI representatives of
the whole. eum::,im.itv.--Yo-urs, faithful
ly. (Signed .1. A. lro'sdoni. Secretary
