*PERTH SEWERAGf.,
To the Editor.
Sir.--Were'the issues involved- not so
serious, one .could haidly help feeling
amused'-at. the indiarubber-like* pro
pensities of Mr. W. Nichblson. who'
after, being knocked down tagain and
'again by irrefutable facts, figures, and
Arguments, still pops up, and with the
sublime assurance of the. amateur who,
after taking two or three lessons,
"knows all about things,". poses as an
authority on sewag8 disposal and seeks
to saa?re the 'comimnity. into another
peridd of inaction.. Surely this State
has had eliough of suci' croaking. for
one can term it nothing' else, it having
passed .the stage of reasonable opposi
tion to. carping criticism. We had a
sorry lesson on the evil of such while
the goldfields water scheme was in pro
gress, whereby 'one of the greatest en
gineers.of-the'age was worried to death
by the campaign. of hostile. criticisml
engineered: by certain sections of the
Press and irresponsible members o?
the public.
Surely the residents of the metrojpo
lie have suffered enough from the in
action of those who talk of big things
but do nothing. Meanwhile, many valu
able lives are being sacrificed. Per
haps some recent incidents are signifi
cant, and the- action of the-. Govern
ment in regard to §ewage disposal and
of. the Mayor of Perth in regard to
the rubbish destructor. are indicative
of the feeling of impatience that is
growing in the . community against.
those "chronic grunmblers" who decry
everything that .-is attempted,' but
never show a better way. The action
of the authorities is to be commended
by all right-thinking'persons who value
the health of the cokmunity and are
alive to ~fhe necessity of doing some
thing . immediately, towards making
Perth a sanitary city.--Yours, et.,
GEO. CLARI.
