MOTORIST FINED
Speeding Case At
Hamilton
A man who was slated to have at-
tempted a right-angle turn In a motor-
car at Hamilton tuwnshlp at 00 mlles
an-hour was lined In the Hamilton
Police Court yesterday by the Police
Magistrate (Col. J. P. Clark). Inspec-
tor M. J. Collins prosecuted.
Krank McGowan Hills pleaded guilty
to having driven a motor-car at Ham-
ilton on May 3 faster than 30 m.p.h., and
guilty to a further charge o£ having
driven without a licence.
Inspector Collins said that about 1.30
p.m. on. May'3 Trooper Newman was
150yds. '.from a righl-anglë turn Into
the township at Hamilton. Hills drove
u car towards thè corner at a speed
estimated at 00 m.p.h., and when mak-
ing the turn, the car swerved, and
turned completely round, Hills, when
' questioned, said he was doing lt for a
bet. He informed the trooper he had
bet he could get round the turn at GO
m.p.h. He was accompanied by a man
named Mason. Hills' licence had ex-
pired about two months previously. 1
Hills said .he was a traveller. : He
did not remember having told Trooper
Newman he was attempting to make
the turn at 00 m.p.h. as a bet. He was
driving at 45 m.p.h., and thought the
road went straight ahead Instead ' of
turning to the left.
, Hills was lined £5,. with 8/ costs, for
having exceeded the speed limit, and
10/ with 8/ costs for having'/driven
without a licence.
The Police Magistrate: if it had not
meant taking your living from you', 1
would have taken away your driver's
licence.
