Quezon Pardons
31 Sakdalistas
On Birthday Eve
On the eve of his birthday last
evening, President Manuel L. Que
zon signed the conditional pardons
of 31 sakdalistas who took part in
the uprising of 1935, In Cabuyao,
Laguna, and San Ildefonso, Bula-
ean, aiunbef o< others aapvicted

mency today.
The conditional pardons were
given because those being freed,
were blind followers and did not re
alize the gravity of their crime.
Twenty-nine of those given cle
mency are from Cabuyao, while the
two others are from Bulacan.
The President in his statement
on signing the executive clemency
for the 31 sakdalistas declared last
night that "the conditional pardon
'is granted upon the assurance given
by the municipal president of Cabu
yao and prominent residents of the
town who are members of the Liga
Cabuyao that those prisoners upon
release will not be a menace to the
! community, but will return to their
i normal life of peaceful citizens."
The case of 12 other sakdalistas
who ars believed to be the leaders,
are pending consideration by the

The parole board with the ap
proval of the secretary of justice
recommended for executive clemen
cy more than 100 convicted sakda-
listas.
The sakdalista uprising took
place in Cabuyao, and Santa Rosa,
Laguna on May 1935, when 57 were
shot by the constabulary soldiers
in a brief encounter near the
church of the town, on the attempt
of the radicals to take possession
of the government. This uprising
was simultaneous with the one in
San Udefonso, Bulacan.
The sakdalistas given conditional
pardons r d been serving in prison
for seven months. They were sen-!

fenced to from two to 12 years in
jail.
The list of the sakdalistas given
conditional pardons last night fol
lows:
