Madrid, Dec. 13. — The poli
tical affairs of Catalonia are
slowly settling down after a
prolonged controversy result-
ing from the October rebel
lion.
It has been announced that
the Spanish government will
shortly abolish the state of
siege, and will lay proposals
before the Cortes authorizing
gradual relntroduction of Ca
talan autonomy. After normal
conditions have been reestab
lished, Catalonia will be given
an opportunity to proceed
with her elections for the
new parliament. But In all
this, the Madrid government
will reserve to Itself the right
to appoint the governor gen
eral on whom, In case of
emergency, rights otherwise
appertaining to the getieral-
idad will devolve.
