ENGINEER'S REPORT
Mr. L. E. Cowles, engineer to the
Goodradigbee Shire, submitted the
following report to Friday's meeting
which was adopted:—
Main Road*
MAINTENANCE
M.R. 243,
Bowning-Murrumburrah
Road: The two culverts constructed
by the Chas. Hardy Contracting Co,,
one at Glover's and the
other
at
Goondah,
have
been
opened'
for
traffic.
Contractor Wales has completed
the supply and delivery of gravel between
14-15im., and 8i and 10m,
after much interruption by wet
weather, but the work will have to be
gone over with a grader to straighten
it up, as the rain has chopped it
about a lot.
The pipe culverts which have been
set out between Bowning and Binalong
are now being put in.
No funds are yet available for the
construction of a new bridge at Bal
galal Creek.
M.R. 249, Gunning-Queanbeyan:
The patrol gang has been putting out
gravel and carrying out general repairs
on this road.
M.R. 278, Yass-Tumut Road: Both
culverts on this road by the Chas.
Hardy Contracting Co. have been almost
completed, the traffic now being
able to use the approaches to culvert
at 73m.
The by-pass on the southern side of
the Taemas bridge, near Cavan, has
been completed, and the wing fences
erected, and is now open for traffic,
although the approaches still need a
little work on them in the way of
trimming.
One of the shire trucks has been
engaged carting blinding for Archer's
Slip-over deviation and carrying out
general repairs between Warroo and
Sutton's Reserve.
Tenders for culverts at 65 and' 10
m.p. are before council to-day.
T. R. 56, Yass-Burrowa Road:
Several sections of this road have developed
potholes since the recent
rains, but will receive attention by
the patrol.
No funds are yet available for the
construction of new bridge at Kangiara
Creek.
Shire Roads
A RIDING
Considerable damage has been
done to creek crossings on the Childowla
Road, and a truck is being sent
down to Oakey Creek next Monday
to carry out repairs, as this creek is
barely crossable.
Two men are working at present
on the Yass-Black Range Road, carrying
out general repairs and drainage.
The work of re-grading Queen
Street, Binalong, has been completed
and it is now ready for the kerbing
and guttering to be gone ahead with
on the lowei; side. Further works of
this nature will not be able to now be
taken on, as all emergency relief
work has been withdrawn from the
the shire; this being the last work to
be completed under the scheme.
All other improvement works under
the emergency relief scheme will
have to be abandoned, or another
source of funds tapped for the purpose
of completing works listed.
B RIDING
Slight scours occurred on the approaches
to Back Creek
bridge
at
Gundaroo, but repairs have been carried
out by the maintenance men.
General repairs and drainage are
being carried out on Murrumbateman-
Gundaroo
and
Nanima-Bedulluck
roads.
Two men have been employed on
Wargeila
and
Wargeila-Laverstock
roads
clearing
drains,
water-tables
and
carrying
out
general
repair
works,
and
inserting
pipe-culverts
where set out.
The
road
leading
to
Mr.
J.
O'Brien's, for which
a request
for
ork to be done on it was before last
meeting, I find to be only a reserved
road, and not
a
public road,
and
therefore not under the council's control.
The maintenance men are being
transferred from Wargeila Road to
the Tangmangaroo-Rye Park Road to
carry out urgent repairs and drain'
age.
Mr. F. Boulding carried out minor
repairs to a culvert on the Bunrowa-
Road.
C RIDING
One of the shire trucks is being
transferred to the Good Hope Road
to carry out repairs, such as the
gravelling bad scours and potholes
between 6 m.p. and Thompson's
boundary gate.
A maintenance gang is at present
at work on the Sawyer's Gully Road,
working out towards Narrengullen,
and should have its work completed
at an early date.
Sufficient pipes are available for
making a dry causeway where water
lies in front of Cr. Merriman's on the
Dog Trap Road, and will be put in
when the men are available.
WORKS GENERALLY
As a result
of
the.recent heavy
rains it will be
necessary
to utilise
portion of the reserve fund set aside
for such purposes on the shires' own
roads as will require extra attention
after the recent heavy rains.
This particularly
applies
to
the
Childowla Road.
The president led a team of local
volunteers to carry out repairs 'to ap- i
proaches to Mullion
Creek, • which
were scoured daring a _flood recently,
otherwise traffic would have been held
up.
Local residents at Childowla also
filled up with stone the .Oakey Creek
crossing to enable traffic to .pass over.
