Adoption of Rabbit
Remarkable Devotion
A thoroughbred Alsatian owned by
three brothers at a garage on tho Stan-
ford. Road at .Orsott, In Essex (Eng-
land), has adoptod a three-weeks-old
l'abbit. Tho dog could swallow the- tiny
rabbit,, but the motherly instinct in
Bessie, tho Alsatian, has been brought
out; and she gently tends her strange
I companion (says the "Dally Herald").

Bosnio strayed recently, and was not
seen for hours. At dusk, when she re-
turned, a tiny rabbit was suspended
from her jaws. Carefully she placed lt
in her kennel, curled herself up, and with
baby by her side settled down to sleep.
Her owners thought at llrst that she was
caring for a rat, and when they ap-
proached Hie kennel, Bessie, in aggres-
sive mood,- pounced from her bed to
guard the rabbit. Then, despite Bes-
sie's motherly caro, tho rabbit died.
Even then sho would let nobody up
proach lt, and only by a trick was lt
removed. Bessie was grief-stricken.
She refused ' to oat and moped about
As silo was starving herself tho owners
decided to lind another baby for her.
So ii tame baby rabbit was bought, and
Bessie immediately became Interested.
"Bessie,,who is three years old, ls re-
markably devoted to tho rabbit, and
none of us is allowed to touch lt," said
one of tho brothers Day, who own the
dog.
