OSLO, (Monday. — The No
bel peace prize has been
awarded to Mr Cordell Hull,
former United States Secre-
tary of State, the Norwegian
newsagenev announced to
day.
DANGEROUS AGE
WASHINGTON. Monday. — Ex
pressing gratification at the award
of the Nobel Prize to him. Mr Hull
said the struggle for peace must
be intensified and broadened if
tlie human race were to be pre
served in this new and dangerous
atomic age.
There must be nn increased ef
fort to promote and maintain a
more alert and better informed
public opinion all over the world.
There must be continued unity,
friendly understanding and com
mon effort among the people and
statesmen of the major united
nations which bore the principal
burden of the war against the
Axis.
I Mr Cordell Hull played a lead
ing part in international politics
as the late President Roosevelt's
Secretary of Stpte, from his ap-
pointment In 1933 until his resig
nation In November Inst year. He
led American delegations to vari
ous international conferences dur
ing . the pre-war years, including
the Inter- American- Conference for
the Maintenance of . Peace. ' .at
Buenos Aircn in 1930, and also
later conferences of the American
republics.

The Nobel peace prize, normally
awarded each year, was valued be
