Sydney, August 16.
James Flanagan, a miner, was killed at the
New Lambton pit this morning by a fall of
ccal.
Sirce the recent heavy rains, which have
can-J feed to become very plentiful, the
rabbits in the southern districts have been
rapidly on the increase. The long drought
laet rammer thinned their numbers greatly,
but if tbe present rate of increase is continued
they will soon bs as bad as ever. The pest is
also reported to be increasing in other parts of
tbe colonies.
The shearers at Lee's South Oondobolin sta
tion yesterday rtfosed to start under the
station rules, and are determined to hold out
for the union roles j
A return isaned by the Government statisti
cian gives the population of the colony on Jane
30 last at UCS.no-
