COUNTRY PARTY
Mr. Prowse to be Nom-
inated as Deputy
Speaker
At a party meeting yesterday
morning, the Country Party elected
Mr. Prowse (W.A.) as the party nom-
ination as Chairman of Committees in
the House of Representatives. He
had a small majority over the other
candidate, Mr. T. Collins (N.S.W.).
Mr. Prowse received the support of
the U.A.P., and was elected Chairman
of Committees unopposed when the
House resumed in the afternoon. He
was chairman during the last Parlia-
ment.
Mr. Nock (N.S.W.) was chosen as
party whip, and Mr. T. Collins will
be the party representative upon the
Public Works Committee.
The election of Mr. Prowse com-
pensates him for the loss of Cabinet
rank at the last minute during re-
adjustments of the Ministry on Mon-
day, and may be interpreted as a
party vote of confidence in the party
leader, (Dr. Page), of whom Mr.
Prowse is one of the staunchest sup-
porters. By its vote, the party has
endorsed Dr. Page's selection for the
most important appointment in the
hands of the party outside the
Ministry.
