less than tho world's record.' they
bent the British record of Flight Lieut.
Carr, who covered 3419 miles from
England beforo he came down in tho
Persian Gulf In 1927.
shortage of petrol
The Fairey plane passed over Kar
achi two hours earlier, but tho air
men wore forced to return 'because of
shortage of petrol. This had been
caused by the head winds encountered
after the piano left Bagdad, which
reduced the speed from 07 miles an
hour to 70 miles an hour.
(The world's non-stop long distance
record mnde by tho Italians, Captain
Arjuro Ferrnrln and Major Carlo
Delprote, In July, 1928, from 'Rome
to Brazil was 4475 miles.
"IMMENSELY VALUABLE"
Designer's Comments
On Flight
(Herald Special Representative)
LONDON, April 26. — Mr C. R.
Fairey, tho designer of tho piano
flown to Karachi, said today P was
a splendid flight.
It was unfortunate that the world's
record was not attained, though it
was within an ace of achievement.
After tho British record had been
beaten it would have been fool-
liurdy to have curried on without suf
ficient petrol In the dark. The value
of the flight was immense. It was
doubtless that the world's record
would be attacked again.
