Law Student's Vain
Sacrifice
EXAM. CHANCE JEOPARDISED
In an effort to sayo the lifo of his
brother, . Mounted Constable Reuben
Penna, who died im the- Melbourne
Hospital on Saturday afternoon, Mr
Albert Ponna, a law student, of Mills-
wyn street, South Yurra, gave a
quart of his blood.
Tho late Mr "Reuben Ponna, 34,
was married and had two children.
Ho died from injuries received whon
he was knocked down by a cable
tram in St. -Hilda, road, near the
police barracks.
Mr Albert Penna is doing his
third year at law, and has been pay
ing his fees out of his salary its clerk
for tho Vacuum Oil Company. Ho sat
for his examinations on Friday, and
thinks ho did very welL- On Monday
he was to have sat again.
So pleased was ho with the manner
in whicli he had answered tho ques
tions on tho examination paper on
Friday that ho was anxious to tell the
news to his brother Reuben, for whom
ho hns always had a very deep affec
tion.
Reuben was equally anxious, and
was on his way to. Mlllswyn street
when ho was knocked down by tho
tram. ,
Despite his bereavement and his
woak condition through loss of blood,
Mr Ponna attempted to reach the
University yesterday to sit for his
second paper. But ho was too weak.
Whether ho will bo penalised for his
gallant ! sacrifice must be decided by
tho University authorities. This morn
ing he vrus feeling very ill. Ho is
a brother of the Rev Mr Penna, a
Methodist clergyman at Collingwood.
