Silver Chief, owned by Mr Ray
Herbert, of Diamond Creek, bril
liantly won the Waterloo Cup this
afternoon. Starting favorite at
5/2 on he outclassed the Geelong
puppy, Four Steps, to win by
7 pts. in 69 sec.
Pour Steps, who beat the hot favor
ite, Lettiei's Chris in the third tie, was
lucky to win the opening course.
His opponent, Menang, had a good
lead when both dogs came out on the
slipping race, but Menang ran , right
off the line of ms game and unsighted.
When he did catch sight he made up
a lot o: his leeway and showed good
working ability to be beaten by one
point.
Mr Ray Herbert's other representa
tive. Silver Chief, put up a splendid
performance by leading Benecia six
lengths after unsighting.
