Johns and Waygood
Shareholders of Johns nnd Waygood
Ltd. were told by the chairman of
directors (Mr A. E. Johns) at the annual
mecung ot tnc
company today
that although the
depression
appeared to be
lifting, and a re
turn to more
normal times was
in sight, they
should not build
011 receiving the
same dividend in
the current year,
for it was impos
sible to foretell
what the future
had in store. "Lack
of confidence," he

covuiy ana unui tnat is overcome, and
people are prepared to spend their money
judiciously, we have still a long road to
travel towards the rehabilitation of the
financial position of the country." Mr
Johns remarked that the building trade,
which provided the backbone of the
company's business, showed definite
signs of improvement, and in spite of
the keen competition for. the small num
ber of new buildings erected in the past
year, the company had secured its share
of the work offering. ,
He pointed out that taxation was still
very oppressive. It was hoped that
Governments would recognise the neces
sity of relieving industries of their heavy
burdens at the earliest opportunity. In
conclusion, the chairman said that the
cash position of the company was very
strong, but he would like to see most
of the money on investment being used
in the business and thereby earning a
better return. The report and balance-
sheet were adopted.
