1000 GUESTS
Mrs Dyer's Reception
Tonight
Melbourne will again he without a
Lady Mayoress from tomorrow, when
Mrs James Dyer, sister of the Lord
Mayor (Cr. Gcngoult Smith) will leave
for Paris. She has been Acting-Lady
Mayoress.
The Town Hall has been turned into a
gay autumn garden for the reception at
which Mrs Dyer will entertain 1000
guests tonight.
The garden will be the setting for
woodland dancing by mischievous elves,
sprites, nymphs, and little frog Figures-
child pupils of Miss Jennie Brenan.
Powerful spotlights will follow the
dancers, while the guests' chairs will be
placed in the shadow around the central
garden.
Sloping banks planted with ferns and
a waterfall plashing merrily over rocks
are among the beauties of a wild bush
garden arranged in front of the plat
form. It provides a winding woodland
path as an entrance for the dancers, and
will be a screen for the orchestra and
music from a hidden choir.
The City Organist (Mr William
McKie) and the Elisc Steele String Quar
tette will also take part in the musical
programme.
