LEAGUE SEEKS MEMBERS
DIRECT APPEAL TO BE MADE
With a view to increasing the
membership oC the Returned Sailors
and Soldiers' Imperial League of Aus
tralia, Mr G. J. C. Dyett, the prosi-
cior, is proposing that a personal ap-
peal should be made to every recipi
ent of the war gratuity who has not
yet Joined.
Mr Dyott has outlined a scheme un
der which soldiers will bo circularised,
but this must be adopted by every
State branch before it can become
operative. The council of the Victor
ian branch has asked the executive
to submit a report on it.
Mr Dyett has intimated that Senator
Pearee, the Minister for Defence, has
agreed to permit of arrangements be
ing made whereby, the addresses of
war gratuity recipients may be typed
at tho department on envelopes to be
supplied by tho League. The depart
ment ha.t no funds appropriated to
meet tho wages of the temporary typ
ists and checkers required for thu
work, and consequently it will be
necessary for the League to deposit
with the department the sum re
quired. Tho estimated- cost is £305,
Victoria's quota being £9.0. In stating
that, the cost will be aiiouc £1 for each
1000 envelopes, the department pro
mises that the supervision will be
efficient. _ _
