COLIINCWOOD V. RICHMOND.
a good deal of Interest was taken In a
match played on the Victoria Park this
afternoon between the Colllngwood and
Richmond clubs. The attendance, con-
sidering the fact that the match had no
bearing on the contests to come, was
very good. Both the weather and the
ground wero splendid. Special Interest!
was taken in the performances of a
number of colts whom Colllngwood In
tend to try during the season.

the play.
Colllngwood kicked towards the rail
way, and with a slight breeze worked
the ball up to their opponents' goal. Bar
ling, who was playing well, relieved for i
a time, but Colllngwood pressed the at- :
tack. Bownos did a fine bit of work In 1
defence, but the local men still hovered i
round, and the score was opened with a
behind, kicked by m'Conochy. Strahan,
one of Colllngwood'a sew men, brought
off a fine mark oft the kick-off, but Rich
mond rallied and bore the ball away. For
the first time Evans carried the ball over
the centre lice, and then Richmond made
a short, sharp rush. Rudd showed up
well,, and sent the ball to the posts. There
was a scrimmage, and out of the midst
of It. Hutchinson kicked Richmond's |
first goal. They did not hold the advan
tage In the score tang. Colllngwood, In
. the next couple of minutes, swarmed ,
j over them. Leach passed to m'Carthy. !
; who passed to Homan, who opened the
'local men's score account. It was added
i to In quick order by Pears, who very
| cleverly snapped a goal. m'Conochy
.was playing a fine game, and it was not
hta fault that there was not another gcal
within the next second or two.
He passed to Pannam. who
klck.'d poorly. Nevertheless, he had
a big share In the getting of the third
goal. He passed to Pears, who wound
up a rnvirt run by kicking well and truly.
Richmond, though sorely prea-ed,
showed some sterling work In defence.
Bownas especially did vlauable wosk. and
he was smartly seconded by Edmonds.
The' visitors occasionally broke through
the besieging lines, and Rudd was the
man who generally helped them to do It.
They did not make the most of their op
portunities. Barling mkeed a very easy
shot. Ilutchlnton made a much better.

The change of ends did not help the
visitors much. Pannam, m'Conochy and
Sykea pressed the attack, and behlnds
were added rapidly. Alley and Evans
helped Iticomond to another chance, and
they Itfrlted like scoring till Monohan
spoiled their chance with a fine mark.
They came again with the help 0f a free
kick to Rlcketts, nr.d a couple of exciting
scrimmages took piece in front of the
goal. Leach relieved smartly. play
was soon at the other end, and things
were going badly with Richmond when an
opportune free kick to Rudd saved tho
situation. Players crowded on to the ball,
and play began to get somewhat rough.
It remained very even, however, till
m'Cccochy got n mark in front
and kicked the local men's fifth goal.
Rlcketts, Hutchinson and Brennan.' the
