An official telegram from Berlin confirms
tho reports received in London
of the destruction of the German cruiser
Uridine. The Undine was patrolling
the South coast of Sweden when
the submarine appeared and lired two
torpedoes at her, one of which struck
the machine-room.
This message states that nearly tho
whole of the crpw were saved, and that
the survivors and the ^bodies of tho
men who perished were brought to Kiel
by special train.
An hour before her encounter with
the Undine, the submarine had purchased
provisions from a Swedish' steamer.
The Undine was oue of the last of
the German light cruisers, which were
built in the late nineties, and were the
direct forerunners of the Emden cla^s.
