'TORCE INTO USE."
Colonial Secretary's View.
Unused land adjacent to railways was
denounced by the Colonial Secretary (Mr.
R. S. Sampson), when speaking at the
opening of Roleystone agricultural hall on
Saturday.
"The feeling is general throughout
Western Australia." the Minister said,
"and in the Swan electorate particularly
that these lands should be forc into
use as early as possible. The Closer
Settlement Bill -has recently passed the
Legislative Assembly. It now goes to
the Legislative Council Last session a
Bill practically the same as that now
before Parliament came to grief in the
Upper House. I hope the present Bill
will meet a better fate because. if the
Premier's land settlement policy is to be
carried into effect, and Western Australia
is to enjoy those days of prosperity which
should come to it, undoubtedly unutilised
lands should be forced into use. I am
most earnest in my desire to support
the Premier in what he has done. Many
think the Bill does not go far enough
and that it should be made more difficult
to hold land which is not used. I hope,
however, that, as a result of the Closer
Settlement Bill. the Premier will be aided
in his scheme, that Western Australia
will advance, and that everybody will
benefit by the improved conditions." (Ap
