"PUT IT OFF PCTER"
The comedy,."Put it Off Peter" was
enacted by the Y.W.C.A. Player's ? on.
Monday night, and although the at-
tendance was disappointing the, play-
ers did their best to provide,an en-
joyable evening for those presnt.
The stage gave the pleasing effect
of a cosy room with a fire burning
brightly, and trouble had been taken
lin providing,,the effect., ..,.'t'v
The scene, opena in Peter Keppel's'
studio, where, Beatrice Draycott, Pe-
ter's fiancee, is being reminded, of the
manner in which Peter keeps putting
off the wedding. ' She is deeply re-:
sentful of the unkind remarks, par-
ticularly as she herself feels that;
Peter is not being quite fair. ¦ Heri
great friend, Judy 'McCarthy, decides
to try and make Peter come to his
senses and marry Beatrice. Her
plans go somewhat astray, and she
finds herself in the position of the
supposed.wife of Peter, who through
a slight accident and temporary loss
of consciousness, cannot contradict
the statement that she is his wife al-
though he cannot remember marry-
ing her, for he believes her to be
an artist's model for- whom he hau
a particular aversion. However,
Peter falls in love with Judy and the
love being reciprocated on Judy's
part, she decides to tell him the
whole story of her deception. Their
differences were finally settled, and
they decide that Beatrice must bc
put to the test and/given a chance
to marry Peter immediately, other-
wise, she will lose him to Judy. Mean -
while, Beatrice, has decided to run
away with Hugh Crawford, whom
she now. loves, and ref uses! to marry "¦'
Peter at such short notice, but when
pressed dramatically admits that she
loves Hugh, so Judy and Peter are
left free. ... -.
Mr. Ernie Smith acted with his
usual assurance in the title role, and
as Judy, Miss Grace Kirk " deserves
special' mention as her part was a
tedious one, and this is her first ap-
pearance. As Trixie O'Farrell, the
artist's model, Miss Eleanor Doig,
was particularly good and won ap-
plause whenever she came on to the ,
stage. Dolour Smith aa Beatrice
Draycott, showed talent in some try-
ing situations. Mrs. Ives, as Mrs.
Draycott, Beatrice's mother, and Miss
Merna Doig as her sister, performed
very creditably, while Mr. Douglas
McCalman, although a trifle too forc-
ed, provided much of the humour of
the play. Mr. Graham Jefferis as
Hugh. Crawford (an artist), was not
quite as expressive as he might have
been, but carried out his part satis-
factorily, and Mr. H. W. Love as
Dr. Walpole, did well as he only took
the part at the last moment.
At the close of thc production, Miss
Yetty Landau, the producer of thc
play, thanked the audience for their
attendance, and took thc opportunity
of saying au revoir to Miss Betty
Downing, one of, the first members
of. the Y players, who is leaving for
England next Saturday, and who will
be much missed. Miss Downing said
she was sorry to be.leaving, as she
had spent a happy time hero.
Supper afterwards was served fdr
the players and their friends in hon-
our of Miss Downing.
