DIVERGENT CABINET VIEWS.

Notwithstanding the long sittings iii
Cabinet the members of the Federal Min-
istry havo wj far been unable to reconcile
their divergent views on the problem pre-
sented by the augur industry. The difficul-
ties of the Cabinet are shared on a
larger scale by the Ministerial mu
jority, apart from the Tasmanian and West
Australian members, who arc practically
unanimous in demanding that the enibargn
be done away with, and the Queensland
group, who aro naturally solidly in fav;
our of its retention. The majority of
tho representatives from New South
Wales. Victoria, and South Australia,
ore pulled both ways. Generally speak-
ing, tbey would like to boo effective pro
1 tection given to the sugar industry if only
they could have in addition cheap sugar for
their . constituents,
