GRATUITY BOND INTEREST.
£893,000 PAYABLE TO-DA^
MELBOURNE, March 14.
Arrangements have been made bv the
Federal Treasury to pay the interest
due cn th« war grataUy bonds from
to-morrow The interest, which is at the
rate of 6} per cent, will be paid at any
Commonwealth money order office or
branch of the Commonwealth Bank
In making this announcement to-
night, the Treasurer (Mr S M Bruce)
said that the value of the war gratuity
bonds issued was £26,665,773, and the
amount of interest now due was £893,000
Bonds to the value of £10,559,935 were
still retained bv the original holders;
the remainder, £lb,105,838, had been paid
to the soldiers cither in cash or ita equi-
valent The interest will be paid on
presentation of the bond, to which a
coupon is attached Many of the sol-
diers have not collected the interest
which was due in March, 1921, and it is
presmned that they intend to collect the
amount of tile gratuitv and the whole
of the interest when the bonds are re-
deemed m 1B24.
