OLD MEMORIES REVIVED.
A member of "The Mercury" staff Is
in receipt of the following from an ojd
time pedestrian, still hale and hearty in
Hobart, and going strong'-"The par. in
'The Mercury' ro Harry Miller revived
m me memories of the past In the
early nineties a formidable group of
peds could be seen in full training on
the cricket ground-Harry Miller, Stew-
art Robertson Jim Gatty, Davy Plant,
and others I did my training wjth
them At New Norfolk sports on Easter
Monday, 1892, Miller Mas on 3yds m
tho Sheffield In the final tbcre Was a
clipping finish between Miller, Wil-
loughby How o (13yds start), and Con
Cantrcll (12yds ) The judges not be-
ing able to decide the winner, the final
was run again, nhon, after another
clinking go, Howe won by a foot, and
Miller and Cantrcll dead-heated for se
oond place Bnncr McChristio ran
second in a heat, but missed the linal
I won two races that day, the 200yds
and the 150yds events In tho handi-
caps for Bridgewater sports, November,
1892, Miller was on 4>ds in the 130yds
event, giving away 21yds In the hur-
dles, 150yds, Millei was on 2yds, giv-
ing away 25yds. Either Briner Me
Cbristic or Tom Hallam won the quar-
ter mile. I v.as on 5>ds, Hallam 9yds,
McChnstie lOjdt, , limit, 23vds Billy
Crawford was handicapped in the hur-
dles that day on 6vds, and be was a
very fast man Tbore was a trot in the
programme at Bridgewater, ¿rid Alder-
man Arnott won it on his own horse,
called, I think, Tommv II I hate bo
fore mo an old Richmond programme.
