INFANT MOUNTAINEERS.'
To the Editor of "Tho Mercury."
Sir,-I noticed in your issue of Oc-
tober 15 a letter by Thomas King, in
which he tells us of tho youngest child
to his knowledgo that has reached the
pinnacle of 'Mount Wellington. Ho
gave the child's age as 15 months, and
a« ho wished to bo informed of any
younger member of the human raco
who has successfully accomplished this
feat, I may say that to my knowledge
this record has been soirpa«sed by sov<>
ral months. In the early part of
January this year, included in a party
of over thirty Glen Huon residents
whose ambitions mounted to that fam-
ous height of 4,166 feet above sea
level, were two babies of ^nino and
I eleven months respectively. The party
with tho children present vvore photo-
graphed around th-? pole. In talking
orer the circumstance recently with
| friends I was informed of another inci-
dent which appeared at one timo in
¡ the columns of "The Mercury' where
i it bold of a ooniparatively young in
\ fant who was so happy as to realise
the experience of being christened at
the pinnacle of this sams notm-inrm
mountain.
