Where Ignorance Is—
A.E.Y.'s paragraph re poddy dodgers
("Queenslander,'" 30/8/34) reminded
me of a butcher who traded in a
south-western Queensland country,
town. Throughout the district he
supplied he was famed for his first
class beef. For a year or two he
did rattling good business until one
day, in company with others, he was
apprehended by the police. Far from
home (he was caught red-handed
driving a mob of "strangers" into a
dense scrub where a little calf-killing
was to be indulged in. A conviction
followed, but it was poor compensa-
tion to the disgusted squatters, who
for many months had been enjoying
juicy steaks sliced from the carcasses
of their own station-bred cattle !—
"WINDOVER."
