SERIOUS FLOODS
In South America
MANY DEATHS
RECORDED
HUGE DAMAGE TO
PROPERTY
BUENOS AIRES, Saturday.
Floods that roared over
the South American lowlands
during the past few days
caused between 50 and 60
deaths and £20,000,000 worth
of damage to property and
crops.
Eastern British Guiana is still in
the grip of swirling waters from overflowing
rivers.
Danger to lives, however, is believed
to be past in the Argentine
and in Brazil, where hardship and
suffering are widespread.
The bodies of 23 persons who were
drowned have been recovered in the
Argentine, and there is a possibility
that the total will reach 40, according
to reports from Mendoza.
There were ten deaths in British
Guiana and eight in Brazil. ,
